Ive been mulling this around for some time, and i think its time to share my mind on it. Im so glad the California State Supreme Court overturned the ban on same sex marriages in this state. However, the conservative christian right nut jobs are frothing at the mouth to get an amendment on the state ballot in November to not over turn the ruling, but also to take away all rights for gays and lesbians.
This whole christian right just drives me batshit. Now, to what ive been thinking about. We in america critisize the Islamic "extremists" for their intolerance of america and our way of life. How are the "moral majority," christian right any different than these people? They are constantly trying to take rights away from people (namely gays and lesbians) based on some book that was written hundreds of years ago and has no basis for our society anymore.
The Shia and the Sunni want to run their country with religious zealousy, the Sauds run their country with religious authority, and now these nut jobs want to run America in the name of Jesus. So how does this make them any better or any worse than our newly named "enemies."
Jerry Fallwell, James Dobson and the rest of their ilk are no better than other religious fanatics in trying to control society to their ideal thinking. Their forked tongues spit hatred and disgust at anything that doesnt conform to the bible. So I tell them they are no different than the Islamic Extremists that they curse and drive this war to its tragic fruition. I dont think Jesus (if he ever existed) would want people to speak on his behalf and claim to know what he would do in any situation. People in this world just need to see each other as people and not as objects to be controlled.
I urge everyone to vote no on the hateful constitutional amendment these religious fanatics will produce in november. The world has not fallen apart since Massacussetts has had gay marriages and straight people are not catching on fire and their marriages are no different since gays have been getting married. Lets continue the practice and move this country past centuries of hate and racism against the minorities.
